Meet the Selkies
In the spring of 2022, Selkies’ Sea Creations was realized — quietly, as most meaningful things often are.
Jill, a lifelong artisan with an intuitive eye for texture and narrative, had long been captivated by the natural beauty of wampum, especially the purple and ivory whorls found within quahog shells, each as singular as a fingerprint. To Jill, these little shells, discarded by most, whispered stories of the sea.
What began as Jill’s passion — creating elegant pieces gifted to loved ones — soon became something more. One such gift found its way to her dear friend Kathy, who was equally enchanted. Under Jill’s careful guidance, Kathy learned the art: selecting, shaping, and polishing the humble shells into treasures.
By the summer of 2023, Jill and Kathy had stepped beyond the realm of hobbyists, becoming storytellers of the tide. No two pieces were ever alike, just as no two stories ever are.
